KOA's Mandy Connell presents Historic Boston
Dear Fellow History Nerds,
I’m thrilled to invite you to join me and Chuck on an adventure to where it all began…BOSTON! You can’t turn a corner in Boston and not run into some historical gem that was integral to our nation’s history, and we are going to see as much of it as we can on Labor Day weekend. We will fly on Thursday, August 31st, to Bean Town where we’ll stay at the Bostonian Boston Hotel, which is steeped in old-world history and contemporary elegance.
Over the next five days we’ll see the city via a private historic “Duck” Tour on both land and river, tour the North End and learn about the area’s Italian history while sampling some of the best food they have to offer along the way, and stop by Paul Revere’s house to learn more about his life and role in the Revolution.
The next day we’ll take the ferry to Salem to tour the House of the Seven Gables and learn about the Witch Trials. In today’s political environment this seems timely. Our day in Salem also includes Pickering Wharf and a walking tour of local historical hot spots.
I’m especially looking forward to our walk along the Freedom Trail and the historical sites like the Boston Massacre, Ben Franklin’s statue and the oldest public building in Boston. We’ve got free time built in so you can do your own thing to make this trip truly your own as well. This is going to be a trip full of history, great food, and new friends. I hope you can join us, it’s gonna be wicked pissah*!
Mandy and Chuck
*This is Boston speak for really awesome!

Itinerary
Depart For Boston
Welcome to Boston, often referred to as “America’s Walking City!” Upon arrival at the Logan Airport, gather your luggage and board our transfer headed to The Bostonian Boston Hotel. The hotel is steeped in old-world history and contemporary elegance and close to Boston Harbor and Faneuil Hall, which makes it the perfect spot to call home for the next four nights.
Explore Boston
After breakfast, gather for a short walk from the hotel and hop aboard our private historic “Duck.” We will be greeted by a legendary ConDucktor, who will narrate our tour through many of the places that deem Boston the birthplace of freedom and a city of firsts. Hold on, we’re going to make a big splash into the Charles River for a breathtaking view of the Boston skyline. An experience we will not forget! Next combine the North End history with Boston’s best Italian foods, exploring out-of-the-way establishments and off-the-beaten-path areas, with a resident guide. Along the way, we will stop at several venues to sample delectable foods, while learning the colorful history, in the neighborhood where locals carefully maintain their deeply rooted ties to the Italian culture. Our tour culminates with a visit to the Paul Revere House where we will hear about the man, his revolutionary acts, family, and business ventures. Join us this evening for our welcome dinner at a local restaurant. B, D (plus food tour tastings)
Salem
Our day exploring Salem begins with a short walk to Boston’s Long Wharf. Here we will embark on the high-speed ferry to Salem where you will enjoy scenic shoreline views along the way. As we arrive, we begin with a guided tour of the House of Seven Gables. Next, head over to Pickering Wharf, a great spot for a bit of shopping and lunch. Later, we begin our guided walking tour. Hear stories rich in local history, stop at historic sites, and become spellbound by accounts of the Salem Witch trials. Our early evening return to Boston provides time to explore at leisure or enjoy one of Boston’s many gourmet gems to delight your taste buds for dinner. (B)
Freedom Trail
Today, history comes alive as we walk along the Freedom Trail. Our Bostonian guide will share stories of the American Revolution, and we will see historical sites such as the Benjamin Franklin statue; celebrating one of Boston’s most famous native sons, the Boston Massacre Site; a cobblestone ring marking the site of the 1770 civilian massacre and Revolutionary War precursor, and the Old State House; the oldest surviving public building in Boston. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure to further explore this wonderful city at your own pace. From world famous museums to boutique shopping and legendary taverns, take a tour of the iconic Fenway Park, or perhaps visit the JFK Library, there is a plethora of activities to fill your afternoon. Gather this evening for a farewell dinner. (B, D)
